Okay people, times are tough. The economy is killing me, layoffs are all too common and Starbucks is closing stores... and that's bad news for all latte lovers. In an attempt to stave off anyone comin’ after my vehicle or throwing me outta my house, I have decided to shift career paths and look for a secure position. As I am finding out, landing a job these days is a lot tougher than it used to be. So, who am I and why should you hire me? My name is Dan Stock and I work in business development, with a focus on marketing. I now have almost three decades of experience. The following – while admittedly long in places - is why you should hire me to work for your company. If you'd prefer a more formal view, you can download my résumé here. This is a more verbose, but friendlier description of who I am, and specifically why I think I'm a good person to hire and work with. I know my stuff.I'm a marketer, business developer and dynamic sales guy. I'm an expert at getting people to identify with a brand. For me, business is more than getting people to notice…it’s about striking a chord of commonality in a prospect that gets them to respond. Here’s what I love: · Business Development – To me, the term "Outside-The-Box" is a term that all too many people bandy about these days without really knowing what that means. There is no box. There are no conventions. It's about finding new and better ways of talking to your prospects and clients and doing whatever it takes to drive sales. Let's put our heads together and discover a better way to raise new revenue for your business. · Leading a Team For Success - I have years of motivating teams to reach new heights. From teams as small as one or two, to entire businesses of hundreds, I can facilitate, motivate, and invigorate. · Direct Mail - I can spit out effective copywriting like seeds at a watermelon-eating contest. I have a way of reaching out to people and touching emotional chords that turn them from mysterious “wannabies” out in the prospect world into cash-paying, will-be-with-you-forever clients. · Web-Based Marketing – Through the gamut of PPC’s, SEM, SEO, Email Marketing, blogging, Affiliate Marketing, social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter, I travel comfortably while understanding that the internet has changed the rules…it’s a new ballgame and prospects cannot be bothered with a barrage of “hype” and hard-sell tactics. · Referral & Loyalty Programs – Marketing in today’s competitive environment is more than selling. It’s about relationships. It’s about trust. It’s about knowing your competitor is always behind you waiting for you to falter. Through custom- designed programs I can reach out to client databases and routinely touch and secure relationships to build long-term confidence and a flood of new business. · Collateral Materials – Brochures, flyers, business cards, stationery…it’s a bewildering array of tools and much more than slapping your name and logo on an item and sending it out. It’s all part of a unified message that is crafted to illicit a response. · Presentations – Give me a laptop and a room full of people and I can market! From Board Room Exec’s to mailroom employees, I can show value through a well-crafted message designed to get people involved in the buying process. I know business best practices. I've diagnosed and worked through obscure problems with small to mid-sized businesses and can dance with the best of them. I know my way around. My watchword is 'commitment'. I take our clients' interests to heart and strive to be proactive…recommending and executing value-added solutions. From financial controls, P&L responsibility, team leadership to achieving weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals I always have one eye on the client and the other on the numbers. I get things done.I've architected and implemented large scale systems. I've designed and built data bases optimized for different tasks and intended to track millions of end users, including a geographically focused, clustered, multi-relative database with no single points of failure. “Huh?” you say. Ask me. I’ve written a best seller. Working with small-business owners has given me great insight into the world of marketing and advertising and I was fortunate enough to put that experience into a toolkit designed to help business owners achieve phenomenal results on their own. (See www.PowerMarketingGuide.com) I communicate well. I'm not a scary, antisocial manager; I've met with and won over difficult customers and co-workers. I'm great at drawing teams together for a common goal. I pay attention to grammar and spelling in my e-mails, and I'm diplomatic when dealing with difficult situations. I like to talk well and write well, and I strive for well-documented, expressive, and elegant messaging. I can play many different roles. I can be a full-time manager, a technical lead, a troubleshooter, a magician and a valuable asset to any team. Like many people, I dislike chaos, so I'm no stranger to setting milestones and helping flesh out project plans. I have some
basic business beliefs. For example, I believe doing a
job badly and then getting someone in to sort it out can be much
more expensive than getting someone in to do the job properly in the
first place. I believe that in a world of decisions based on the
briefest of encounters, competition is the soul of every market. I
believe that in a world of rambling and disjointed communications,
knowing your target audience is key to success. I believe in a world
dominated by competition, that every business has an edge. I also
believe that in a world where customers demand perfection, the
consumer or client is a precious commodity. I'm a nice guy.People like working with me. In life and at work, I'm friendly, mellow, calm under stress, and really hard to offend. I am explicitly non-religious about work styles, employees, and managerial approach. I hang out with current and former co-workers, and we don't just talk about work. I don't have many odd hang-ups or bizarre pet peeves. (Although I do have a pet with a bizarre hang-up.) I'm enthusiastic and passionate about interesting projects and doing things the right way….which, sadly, is not always my way. I’m an interesting person. I enjoy a multitude of activities which mostly center around my three beautiful children. (Read: Family Man.) I donate time to a number of nonprofit community organizations. The activity I'm most proud of? Showing elementary schools how to solicit funds from local businesses to offset declining state budgets contributions. In addition, I have a love for training dogs and have worked with several organizations to train service and companion dogs for individuals with disabilities. I’m a People Person. To quote the Boy Scout Motto, I’m trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent when it comes to business. Convinced?
